I Quit Diet Coke! (2 1/2 Weeks Now) … Watch This Video

by suzanne on April 27, 2010

A quick post about my total addiction to diet coke *sigh* I love diet coke … not sure why … the caffeine … the cold bubble taste … it really doesn’t matter why but I was drinking anywhere from 1 to 4 or even 5 a day! Yikes! That’s horrible. I have some health issues (arthritis, fibromyalgia and chronic back pain) and I know better than to drink this poison.

It’s been two and a half weeks since my last diet coke and I am committed to staying off of it for good.

I’ve seen the pictures of the rats with tumors, I was told it was the direct cause of my fibromyalgia … and still I drank and drank.

Well … today I ran across this video that says it could also be one of the reasons I store fat! Whoa …. Hold everything! Now I’m done for sure. Can you imagine working your ass off (literally I hope LOL) to lose weight and all the while drinking a diet drink you thought would keep you skinny … is actually making you fat?

So I’m done! Please help me stay off of diet coke … Help!

Watch this video about acid and alkaline levels and maybe you’ll “quit” some things too. *SmiLes* Suzanne

P.S. I read somewhere that you have to drink 8 glasses of water to try to counter what one dark colored soda depletes your body of … hmmmm … not good!

So … are you a diet coke drinker? Or diet soda in general? Are you addicted? Have you ever quit? Do you think you’ve had any health related issues due to diet soda? Let us hear from you below so we can all learn together and support each other ;)

Suzanne,,, what an amazing video you’ve posted! I try to stress the benefits of alkaline forming foods to the people I coach, but I think this is the best visual tool I’ve ever seen! Just as a side note, Isagenix has developed a water supplement which can be added to drinks to make them alkaline… something your readers might be interested in after seeing this video! You are welcome to contact me if anyone is interested :)

Thank you so much for this great information… I’ll be sure to pass it along!

Hey Dawn ~ Thanks for the feedback and the input. Is the product to add to water? Is it a powder or liquid? That’s interesting – I hadn’t heard of that but I’m sure a lot of us need it! LOL My dad tried to convince me years ago that I needed to be testing my acid/alkaline levels and that it had a lot to do with weight gain/loss … so I really need to get the strips and start checking mine (hopefully it’s gotten better now that I’m eating healthier). Thanks again *huGs* Suzanne

Suzanne,

I don’t drink or eat diet anything. “Diet” anything contains aspartame and that is what I avoid. Aspartame is really, really a bad substance and it causes numerous and serious side effects.

Hi Sophia ~ I agree … aspartame is horrible! I remember when my chiropractor asked me if I drink diet coke and he said that like 80% of his fibromyalgia patients drank the stuff … that’s crazy huh? I know better than to drink it and I really let it get a hold of me. Never again! I just have to commit to it.

Yes I have had side affects from drinking diet drinks in general for the aspartame. I was tested for Lupus & Fibromyalgia because it caused so much pain in my joints it was horrible.

The doctors said they could not find anything so I went looking for answers. I found time after time on wholestic sites that artificial sweeteners caused many of my symptoms.

I quit for a few years drinking the diet sodas (blush) I went back…shame on me, not like I did prior to quitting all together. But during the time I had quit all those symptoms vanished!

Isn’t it amazing how many people have determined that aspartame and/or diet coke have caused them so many problems and the companies make money off us will fight it tooth and nail? Hmmm … I know I’m responsible for my own health so I need to stop blaming them and just stay away from their crappy products! I do love crystal light but I’ve cut way down and I will get off of that too here soon (baby steps LOL).

Chrissy did you get the symptoms back? They tested me for everything under the sun too … told them to put negative for anything they could not prove conclusively due to medical insurance issues. They labeled me non-specific arthritis *sigh* (my mom has rheumatoid so I pray it’s not actually that).

Water is the very best thing we can put into our bodies right? *huGs*

They have slightly because of the soda only, I use steva in everything else, tea, coffee etc. The soda intake is much less that it was before and I am trying to lessen it even more.

Steva made a HUGE difference though as I drink coffee and tea probably more than soda and used to use the artificial sweeteners. Switching to steva and quitting soda was the best thing I had done for my body.

When I was working in the restaurant I began drinking soda again because their water tasted like dirt (i know I could have brang my own)…I could quit again I know I can (as I cringe LOL)

I should have mentioned any artificial sweeteners. lol. They are horrible and they have an aftertaste. Stevia is much better, but I find it hard to find them in products. Everything is Splenda or the other fake sugar crap.

I’ll just stick to my water.

Yes, I prefer Stevia too and I don’t know if any drink products that use it … maybe I’ll do some searching. I like crystal light too but they use aspartame … I believe they use it in their powder but not their premixed drinks if I remember correctly. *sigh* It would be nice to have something to drink other than water that wasn’t horrible for us! LOL

What an awesome post. But I must admit I had an attitude from the get go of this post (blushing) because I’m a Diet Coke junkie. I have been losing weight while drinking Diet Coke (of course I only have maybe 1 or 2 a week it’s not like the 3-6 a day I used to drink!) but there are so many other things that are problems for me when it comes to D.C. – headaches, crave sugary junky type things after I drink one, and the list goes on.

As much as I hate to say it I think I’ve just drank my last diet coke! This post and the video were definitely a huge wake up call for me! Thank you so much for sharing this post & video!

Hey Tishia ~ I’m so glad I’ve quit but I will admit it’s hard when I’m out to eat … I do order water now LOL

So … did you stick with it or does it have a hold on ya? *huGs*

I have joint problems that seem to move from one joint to the other. My hip, then my back, then my shoulder and knees. I gave it a shot and decided to give up all artificial sweeteners. It was hard the first couple of days but drank just water and coffee. All the water gave me a sore throat so I bought bottled water and that doesn’t hurt my throat. Surprisingly, when I gave up the sweeteners, my sweet cravings have totally gone away. There is no will power involved, I just don’t want sweets anymore. I have lost 12 pounds in 6 weeks. Not a lot but the biggest improvement has been in my knees. I’m climbing stairs easily again and am sleeping good at night. I wonder if it really could be that simple? I’m 57 and overweight but losing.

Wow … Linda … I’m so sorry to hear this … but I’m also glad to hear you’re feeling better. The way the pain moves reminds me of my arthritis … I don’t know what yours is of course … but I hope it stays GONE!

I’m doing great with my weight loss and I’m feeling so strong and healthy for the first time in many many years (I’m 44). I’m using Isagenix products and I can’t believe the difference in how I feel now. I’ll be reviewing most of the products here on the blog and you can shoot me an email too if you have any questions about what I’m using and how it works.

Glad to hear you’re feeling better … *huGs* Suzanne
